Pastor Rich and Brenda Carr attended the Home Missions Retreat at the Association Retreat Center in Wisconsin.
Shepherding a Home Missions congregation is uniquely difficult pastoral work at times. The ups and downs of establishing a new congregation, often with limited resources, and far away from other ALFC churches, causes these men to labor and pray hard. To provide a spiritual recharge for these pastors and their wives, the Home Missions office hosts an annual retreat every January at the Association Retreat Center in Osceola, WI. The invitation is issued to “come away and rest awhile” with other AFLC Home Mission pastors. At this two day retreat, pastors and lay leadership receive solid encouragement for their spiritual walk, practical workshops, and participate in times of prayer.
The retreat was kicked off with a "Lumberjack" Banquet complete with fiddle music, flannel shirts and beef stew. Speaker topics included "Balancing Priorities," "The Joy of Pain," "Responding to Conflicts," and "Working with Student Volunteers." The attendees came hungry and went home fed and thankful for the tender care of the Shepherd of our souls, Jesus Christ.
